01 Dec Old Hollywood Glamour: Polo Lounge at the Beverly Hills Hotel
The tales of 20th century glamour, riches and romance ooze from the elaborate cabanas, private bungalows and lush garden at the Polo Lounge at the Beverly Hills Hotel.
Old Hollywood mystique is palpable within the walls of this historic hotel. I bet if you closed your eyes, you could see a figure that resembles Charlie Chaplin sitting at his favorite booth at the Polo Lounge where he had a standing table every week.
I’m sure you could even see a young Elizabeth Taylor frolicking around the promenade where her father had an art gallery. She later frequented the bungalows at the hotel with each of her 8 husbands. If only those bungalows could talk.
The bar at the Polo Lounge located inside the hotel was a favorite among Frank Sinatra and his rambunctious posse, which included Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr. The scene of quite the drinking escapades where undoubtedly copious amounts of liquor were consumed, also I’m sure some musical inspiration was born.
Dining at the Polo Lounge invites you to be a part of the history for a brief moment whether you are aware of it or not. The menu items have stayed pretty consistent throughout the years, just ask the regulars who come in and order the ever popular Mc Carthy salad that has never been taken off the menu. They sell about 90,000 of these a year, and its no wonder they do to its familiar flavors of a traditional Cobb salad with a few twists. One of Hollywood’s most favorite salads at a whopping $33 an order, people don’t mind the price tag if it means being part of Hollywood history, even just for lunch.
They offer other yummy musings such as braised short rib raviolo, tasty burgers and classic desserts.
Dining here might leave a dent in your pocket book, but chances are you aren’t worried about the price of your salad, rather the size of the contract your screenplay will be bought for.
